The September Playlist

September 2014 playlist - Kate Bush, Kylie Minogue, Perfume Genius, etcetera

1. Annie - Back Together (Summer Version) The vinyl-only bonus track from last summer's amazing EP from Annie and Richard X has made it to iTunes at last.

2. Lights - Portal Canada's geekiest pop chanteuse reminds me why I liked her in the first place.

3. The Pierces - Creation Every bit as amazing as I'd hoped it would be. California meets Nashville, with a sprinkling of whatever it is that makes the Pierces so incredible.

4. Take That - The Flood Hello? Jason Orange? Are you in there? Nope? Okay then.

5. Kate Bush - King of the Mountain HOLY SHIT I WAS AT AN ACTUAL KATE BUSH CONCERT THIS MONTH.

6. Howling Bells - Into the Sky You might not remember these guys or their third album from 2011 but my iPod shuffle sure does.

7. Kylie - On A Night Like This I WENT TO SEE KYLIE THIS MONTH TOO AND SHE WAS GREAT.

8. Goldfrapp - Drew It's autumn therefore this.

9. Perfume Genius - Queen I'm worried my sashay isn't menacing enough yet. Young families of Kennington beware.

10. Idlewild - American English You sort of broke my heart this month, Scotland.

11. Emily Haines & the Soft Skeleton - Rowboat It's autumn therefore also this.

12. No Doubt - Dreaming the Same Dream Gwenny Gwen Gwen, more No Doubt and less Wind It Up for your new record please.

13. Rufus Wainwright - The Maker Makes In case you were wondering, no - I still can't watch Brokeback Mountain without blubbing my face off. See also: Dumbo

14. Iggy Azalea feat. Charli XCX - Fancy Back on my radar thanks to the X Factor ads.

15. The Subways - Alright Still going apparently, but their second album was horribly underrated.

16. Alex Parks - Get Out As was Alex Parks'. Every September I spare a 3 minutes to remember this Judie Tzuke co-write of a top 34 hit that never was.

17. Bastille - Of the Night I really didn't appreciate this enough at the time. Those second verse vocals are everything.

18. Ella Henderson - Ghost X Factor ads again.

19. The Pierces - Flesh and Bone A tender closing track about long-term love - not cannibalism.

20. Kate Bush - Cloudbusting HOLY SHIT I SAW KATE BUSH PERFORM THIS LIVE WHAT ELSE AM I LIVING FOR.
